がんぐろ
(Ganguro)
Ganguro literally means “black face”. It’s an alternative fashion that reached it’s high peak in 2000 where girls would dye their hair blonde or orange and tanned skin. Hair was usually short and curly in light brown, white and silver streaks were also very common. Mini skirts, long coats and platform boots were very popular. Dark foundation, subtle white eyeshadow around the eyes, black eyeliner and white lipstick are the tradmark makeup of the style.
ヤマンバ
(Yamamba)
Yamamba it’s a style that developed from Ganguro. They feature dark tans, heavy “panda” eye makeup, white lipstick, colored circle lenses and stickers on their faces. Multicolored hair (orange, hot pink, blue, white), dreadlocks and extensions are very used. Yamambas clothes are inpired in Hawaii and beach related. They wear lei flowers in their necks, wrists and even on their hairs. Yamambas only wear white makeup above the eyes.
マンバ
(Manba)
Manba it’s a shortned name of Yamamba, it’s like an updated version of Yamambas. They made some major changes in 2004. Their makeup can be light or extreme and it’s more powdery and much more blended (they use more coloful eyeshadows). Colored eyelashes and diamonds around the eyes are very common. Clubwear clothes are very used but Hawaiinan accesories and stickers around the eyes are no longer included. Hair tends do be blonde, bright and fluorecent, usually in mullet style. You can also find Manbas with braided hair. Manbas wear white makeup above and below the eyes.
バンバ
(Banba)
Banba it’s a lighter form of Manba. Banbas wear less white makeup, but more shimmery eyeshadows. The hair are not has much neon colored as Manbas. Extreme false eyelashes and colored circle lens are used and they tend to wear darker clothes, general club wear and platform saldals. The makeup can be light and heavy, they usually wear a pale pink on the lips instead of white and use natural / bleached hair.
